NB Women GO members announce recipients of community grants

NB Women GO members announced the nonprofit recipients of six community grants during a live voting event on April 26 at Milltown Historic District. The members of the women’s giving circle awarded grants in five categories. The recipients include:

  • River City Advocacy, $7,500 – Arts/Culture Category
  • CASA, $3,750 – Family/Children Category
  • Wunderbar/Tejas Smiles, $3,750 – Family/Children Category
  • STEPS, $7,500 – Education Category
  • Humane Society of New Braunfels, $7,500 – Animal Welfare Category
  • Habitat for Humanity, $7,500 – Preservation/Environment Category

More than 50 members of NB Women GO attended the event and listened to presentations about 22 important causes in the New Braunfels area before voting in each category. NB Women GO members served as sponsors of the nonprofits and each provided a two-minute presentation about the nonprofit they were representing. Members then voted on a recipient in each category.

“It was just so difficult to choose,” exclaimed many of the members during the voting process.

Before it was all over, members took a revote in two of the categories because the vote was too close to call. In the Family/Children Category, two nonprofits – CASA and Tejas Smiles – were declared recipients after a second vote resulted in a tie.

The grant recipients address a wide range of community needs – including helping individuals end the cycle of poverty, meeting the dental health needs of families and individuals, serving as advocates for children, providing housing stability for families, providing art therapy, and animal sheltering.
