NB Next grant finalists announced
The mission of NB Next is to connect our members with nonprofits in New Braunfels/Comal County, teach and train our members about local needs and give them opportunities to serve. The NB Next Board has been busy as we are in the midst of our “giving season”. Grant applications have been submitted and reviewed, and the finalists have been notified for our 2019 $5,000 grant. It’s an honor to announce the NB Next 2019 Grant Finalists.
Big Brothers Big Sisters (serving Comal and Guadalupe Counties) provides children with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships to change their lives for the better, forever. Options for Life serves people in our community who struggle to meet basic needs for their babies, such as diapers, wipes, formula, etc. They also serve as a free resource for STD testing.
Solutions that Equip People for Success, or STEPS, provides life coaching and case management services to their clients, as well as a customized life plan to help them break the chains of poverty, negativity, unhealthy lifestyles, or whatever is hindering their success. Congratulations to our finalists!
As a member of NB Next, your annual membership donation of $200 opens the opportunity for you to grant thousands of dollars to nonprofits in our community via others’ pooled donations toward NB Next’s endowment fund. NB Next members are able to participate in the grant application review process in the spring, and on May 14th of this year all members in good standing will cast their vote for grant winner. Right now the grant finalists are working on videos showcasing their mission and how the NB Next grant can support their efforts. At our grant event, these videos will be played for our members, who will then vote on the winner. The winner will be announced the week of May 20th! For me, the videos are the highlight of the evening as they provide true insight into the nature of the organization. The energy at the grant event is one of excitement and anticipation, and the NB Next Board invites you to be a part of it with us! It’s not too late for you or someone you love to sign up to be a NB Next member and participate in our upcoming grant on May 14th at 5:30pm at McKenna. You can sign up to be a member by visiting http://nbacf.org/nb-next/ or email us at NBNext@nbacf.org for information.
The NB Next board, under the leadership of the New Braunfels Community Foundation, creates events and opportunities to educate, encourage, and train up our next generation of leaders, and plant the seeds of philanthropy in New Braunfels and watch what grows! Our board has also recently made some changes to our membership criteria, removing the age limitation of 21 and older from our requirements for participation. NB Next welcomes all who wish to participate in being a part of philanthropy and leadership in our community. Our board felt in order to truly live out our mission of training the “next” generation of givers in New Braunfels, we should be incorporating all generations in what we do. As was discussed in our recent joint-luncheon with the New Braunfels Jaycees, leaders – people who exhibit passion, integrity, and grit – can be found in any age group.
At any age or stage in life, through volunteerism or charitable giving, you can make a difference in your community and the lives of your neighbors. If not with NB Next, perhaps with another organization, like one of the nonprofits mentioned above. Feel free to reach out to NB Next, and we will be happy to get you connected with causes that matter to you.
