Five years of forwarding philanthropy

There are the numbers.

Five years of operations.

More than $1 million in grants.

Nearly 100 funds.

$7 million in assets.

But more importantly, there are the relationships formed. The connections made. The causes that matter.  The legacies left.

“I really want to thank you both and the entire organization for your patience and assistance with removing this great overwhelming cloud over my head.  A big sincere thank you to you all.”
– HCH Disaster Relief and Associate Hardship Assistance Fund grant recipient

“I am more appreciative than I know how to put into words. I hope one day that I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”
– Cade Waldrip, scholarship recipient

What began as an idea in 2009 became operational in 2014, and now, as New Braunfels Community Foundation celebrates five years of existence, we are excited about the future of philanthropy in the New Braunfels area.  The purpose of a community foundation is to build an endowment of funds in order to secure the future of giving. Community foundations are designated public charities rather than private foundations by the Internal Revenue Service, because they raise a significant portion of their resources from a broad cross-section of the public each year.

The New Braunfels Community Foundation started with no funds and no assets.  At the end of 2014, the New Braunfels Community foundation had 21 funds and $1 million in assets. In 2019, the new numbers – nearly 100 funds and $7 million in assets, with Legacy Society assets (people who have named the Foundation in their estate plans) projected to be more than $30 million – clearly reflect the giving nature of our community.

NBCF donors have granted a total of more than $1 million to date, with awards from an employee disaster relief and assistance fund, scholarship funds, the NB Women GO and NB Next giving circles, donor advised funds, mental health fund, arts fund, conservation/preservation funds and many more.

Grants have been awarded to CIS of South Central Texas, Connections Individual and Family Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, New Braunfels Food Bank, Operation Float a Soldier, and Humane Society of Greater New Braunfels, just to name a few.

Seven pillars of giving at New Braunfels Community Foundation promote the overall wellbeing of the community. Those pillars include:

  • Strong Families

Healthy Kids

Community Betterment

Faith Based

Animal Welfare

While New Braunfels Community Foundation has a new logo and new look, our mission remains the same – to connect people who care with causes that matter for the enduring benefit of our community.

We do this by:

  • Creating a culture of charitable giving and providing sound stewardship of funds and endowments;
  • Offering comprehensive services to donors, thereby enhancing the impact and efficiency of their charitable giving;
  • Safeguarding donor intent in perpetuity;
  • Offering effective grant making and support services to nonprofits; and
  • Facilitating strategic and innovative solutions to current community needs and emerging issues.

Where do we go from here?

As our community continues to thrive, meeting the needs of a growing community will be crucial to supporting the overall wellbeing of our community. New Braunfels Community Foundation provides for meeting those needs now and in the future for generations to come.

The giving spirit of our community is alive and well. We are excited to represent donors in their charitable intent planning and to represent the needs of our area nonprofits.

We are here to make your passions permanent.
